2012 Fisker Karma EcoSport

Following his resignation from his position as chief designer at Aston Martin in 2005, Danish-born designer Henrik Fisker established Fisker Automotive in 2007 to develop and produce plug-in hybrid vehicles. While his announcement shocked some industry watchers, many realized that this veteran designer was well-placed to start this new venture, having been responsible for modern design icons from Aston Martin, BMW, Ford, and Lincoln. Introduced at the 2008 North American Auto Show in Detroit, the Fisker Karma advanced and redefined the plug-in hybrid vehicle concept with its beautiful styling, luxurious yet sporting Grand Touring character, and amazing technical specifications. Karma performance is brisk, including 0-60mph acceleration in 6.3 seconds and an electronically-limited 125mph top speed. Acclaim was almost universal from the motoring press for the Karma and despite great promise and rave reviews from owners, Fisker Automotive unfortunately went bankrupt in 2013. Company assets were purchased by China’s Wangxiang America subsidiary, owner of battery manufacturer A123 Systems, which subsequently announced their intention to restart Karma production.

Following assembly by Fisker at its factory in Uusikaupunki, Finland and shipment to America, this 2012 Fisker Karma EcoSport was purchased new by the current owner at Gaudin Porsche in Las Vegas, Nevada. Featuring Fisker’s innovative EVer™ “Electric Vehicle Extended Range” technology, this gorgeous Karma EcoSport is as beautiful as it is advanced. Mileage is extremely limited with just 550 miles at the time of writing. According to the owner, it is maintained by a former Fisker technician at the owner’s garage.

In addition to exceptionally sleek styling directed by Henrik Fisker, this 2012 Fisker Karma EcoSport features extra-cost, factory-optional Inferno paint ($3,000). Eye-catching Circuit Blade™ wheels measuring 22x8.5 inches front and 22x9.5 inches rear mount 255/35/WR22 and 285/35/22 tires respectively. The roof surface is in fact a large solar panel, helping charge the battery while the vehicle is outdoors. Consistent with the extremely low mileage from new, this Karma appears undamaged, unmodified, and essentially as-new overall.

The Karma’s decidedly sporting interior is luxuriously trimmed in extra-cost, optional Canyon Tri-Tone upholstery ($2,200). Comfort is enhanced with 6-way power front seats incorporating lumbar adjustment and memory functions, plus dual-zone climate control air conditioning with heated front and rear seats. The Fisker Command Center™ infotainment system features a 10.2-inch multifunction haptic touch-screen  and voice activated, hands-free navigation with a rear camera. The 295W Premium Audio Package includes 8 speakers, subwoofer, and AM/FM/MP3/USB/AUX inputs, SiriusXM® readiness and Bluetooth® hands-free phone compatibility. Rounding out the interior are steering-wheel mounted audio and phone controls and an auto-dim rearview mirror with Homelink®. Overall, the interior shows little use, consistent with the vehicle’s extremely limited mileage from new.

Engine and Drive Train

Powering this 2012 Fisker Karma EcoSport is the Fisker EVer™ “Electric Vehicle Extended Range” series hybrid dual powertrain based around a QDrive 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with induction via electronic direct fuel injection, powering a 175kW electric generator and twin 479 ft-lb rear-drive electric motors. As mentioned above, the solar-panel roof helps charge the battery while outdoors. Power is transmitted to the rear motors by a single-ratio transmission and limited-slip differential. Underpinnings are 4-wheel independent and Brembo® 4-wheel disc brakes incorporate  regenerative braking. According to the original window sticker, this vehicle is rated by the EPA and DOT at 54 MPGe combined City and Highway mileage and 20 MPG on gasoline only. The engine and underhood area appear original, unmodified, and virtually as-new, consistent with the vehicle’s limited use.

Trunk and Storage Compartment

The trunk appears unmodified, correct, and as-new and contains two charging cords – one for home use and one for EV charging stations.

Documentation and Spares

Included with the sale of this vehicle are the factory-issued books/manuals, spare wheel/tire and roadside tools. Documents include a clean Carfax vehicle-history report.
